Diane Lambert (North Wildwood citizen) said. "I would like to talk to the engineers because I don't know how they did it.""This is the best day," Ron Paley (North Wildwood citizen) said. GREAT LAKES DOCK AND MATERIALS, L.L.C. completed maintenance dredging of the Charlevoix Harbor channel in Michigan. Charlevoix Harbor is a deep draft harbor maintained under the authority of the U.S. Rivers and Harbors Act to 18 feet in Lake Michigan and the inner channels of Lake Charlevoix. The company was also recently awarded a $6.9 million contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District for the Cleveland West Pier to encase 1,320 feet of the 1,430-foot pier with a new concrete overlay, held in place with steel sheet pile. Work will begin on the lakeward end of the pier and proceed inward to the harbor. https://lnkd.in/eYEWNbq9.

At a ceremony in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland Governor's Office Wes Moore, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, USCG Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath and USACE Deputy Commanding General Butch Graham among others announced the full reopening of the Port of Baltimore’s Ft. McHenry channel to 700 feet wide and to a depth of 50 feet.Scott Cowan, President of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA Local 333) thanked the U.S. Coast Guard, US Army Corps of Engineers for “overdelivering… by making it possible to get every ship in here over the past several weeks.” He also praised the salvage and dredging industries. Mr. Cowan stated, “I want to thank all the salvors, Donjon Marine Co., Inc., Resolve Marine, Skanska … The Dredging Contractors of America, especially – It wasn’t only the steel they were taking out of that river, those good old Irish boys, they were digging that debris off the bottom so we could get to 50 feet, so that was a big deal.” #ILA Cowan’s remarks on YouTube. https://lnkd.in/epYcKVM8

Exciting to see all the vessel traffic in and out of Baltimore. The MV CAPE WRATH transits through the Ft. McHenry Channel. Note the Donjon Marine Co., Inc. salvage vessels still on site — with the hydraulic claw hanging in suspension from the crane. The WRATH is one of the Maritime Administration’s Roll-on/Roll-off Ready Reserve Force ships assigned to the US Navy's Military Sealift Command when activated. The vessel is home berthed in Baltimore, MD.Video… https://lnkd.in/e8jcphC6

Inginuity in the U.S. Dredging industry was on full display during FSK debris and wreckage removal. The Baltimore shipping channel will be fully open 700’ wide; 50’ deep shortly as the last truss was removed from the channel yesterday, June 5, 2024 by salvage and dredge company Donjon Marine Co., Inc. “Working to expeditiously and safely there were many moments of pure entrepreneurial innovation captured on video by the US Army Corps of Engineers ,” said William Doyle, CEO of the Dredging Contractors of America. See the time lapse video below where ’s Dale Pyatt, the clam shell bucket dredge, removing wreckage from the FSK channel. Notice what appears to be a huge fishing weight being dropped in front and beside the clam bucket during its lifts. That’s what’s known as “The Pulverizer.”The Pulverizer is a makeshift Lima 2400 crawler crane, spud barge (The Cape May) and mechanical weight device engineered and operated by Sterling Equipment Inc. The Pulverizer worked in tandem with the Dale Pyatt cracking and breaking the submerged FSK road deck so that it could be excavated! America 🇺🇸. https://lnkd.in/du_a-V-x

Saving Rhode Island’s waterfront community with dredged material: “I mean, the bottom line is people talk about coastal erosion. They study coastal erosion. They're fascinated by coastal erosion. But nobody does anything about coastal erosion. So I said, ‘Well, I'm going to do something,’ Cooke said.” https://lnkd.in/eMi8PyRa
