The 2023 6 Nations kicks off this weekend with Wales hosting Ireland, England hosting Scotland and Italy hosting France.
I see the bookies have it as a 2 horse race this year between Ireland and France while giving England a small chance. You can pretty much write your own ticket if you're backing Wales, Scotland or Italy.
I reckon they've got it about right. The clash between Ireland and France next weekend (in Dublin) could well prove to be the decider but England are certainly capable of beating anyone on their day and I think the bookies odds for Scotland (20-1) are pretty generous. Scotland looked like a very good side at times last year (like beating England) but lacked consistency and looked ordinary in others like when they lost to Wales.
I'll be supporting Wales as usual but I must say, looking at their squad they should be worried that they're not producing any new talent. It's all the same old names like Owens, AWJ, Faletau, North and Halfpenny . . . no new and exciting talent to speak of.
Oh well, hope it's a great tournament. Come on Wales!

Borthwick had to keep most of the squad intact as he was only allowed to make a limited amount of changes to Eddie’s squad.

Well, unfortunately they’re the rules ! The squad was chosen by Eddie, he got sacked but most of the players have to remain.

With some key coaching changes, this 6N is going to be about ironing out systems and preparing for the World Cup. I expect some surprises, and for the 6N to not necessarily reflect the strength of the teams at the WC.

This is just a dry run for the world cup, as with the 4 nations. No one really cares who wins, it is just about getting combinations and set plays on a song for the real tournament while keeping a few cards hidden.
My predictions are:
1. France - Probably a grand slam, finishing undefeated- with many points clear of 2nd place.
3. Ireland - Sexton is still the key man. While a good team, lack pace and game breakers
3. England - The Darkhorse. Either an improvement or a disaster with a new coach.
4. Scotland - On their day, they are very good. However, not every day is their day.
5. Wales - Can Gatland turn this lost ship around? Not sure...
6. Italy - Will remain useless.
Ireland is a good unit, better than they are on paper man for man.
Their passing and support runners give them lots of continuity on the attack. It is easy for them to go wide, even without much space. Everyone seems in tandem.
They looked good before the last two world cups but peaked before each one.
They have not carried the favourites tag well, after getting it.

Tuilagi has had so many injury issues that you'd think on the rare occasion he was fit he'd be an automatic pick . . . but then again, I'm not really qualified to comment as I don't know what his recent form has been like.

We’ve had a lot of injuries since he selected the squad so we’ve had to mix and match a bit.
Farrell is only at centre because we lost three of the five selected. Hopefully someone will be back fit before the end of the 6 Nations and Farrell can go back to ten.
Ludlum, I don’t agree with at all, but what do I know ?!
Malins I wouldn’t have selected, I’d have had Murley instead.
Tuilagi is not the threat he used to be, Rooinek. I think we might have seen the last of him in the team….although I’m wrong about everything, it seems, so just watch this space

No team ever managed to win two slams back to back.
EN has a proper route to the final victory. Teams that start are not the same as teams that finish a tournament. EN has all the time in the world to build a winning team and get the momentum.

1) He would have to be on some random Kiwi forum.
2) He would then have to enquire after BB on that forum. Why on earth would he do that?
3) Then someone, the source of the “good authority” would have to reveal that a poster by the same name IE Blackboy posted on there previously.
Seem reasonable?
And here’s why i think BB is Dentsie.
a) BB has one too many times jumped on right when i’m about to make Dentsie cry, posted only to support Lady Dentsie by throwing some random insult at me…and then disappears again. Perhaps it’s gone unnoticed but those types of posts, in those situations, are the bulk of BB’s posts.
b) Dentsie, like the simpleton that she is, was feeling comfortable in that nobody on the board suspected her of being BB. I have for a while but was waiting for a slip-up…and then yesterday it came. Feeling emboldened, she made the post above where she claims to have “good authority” on the fact that BB is some other random poster from a different board…in a way suggesting that BB isn’t a mole when very clearly BB is a mole since his very first posts made reference to information that one could only know had you been here for a while. Kinda like the killer sending the cops a letter.
c) Dentsie will never reveal the source of her “good authority”, like it’s some national secret. She won’t so much as even tell us the supposed forum where she apparently got this info from.

Also, nothing went too far. Cloudy was doing the old big crying eyes "feel sorry for me" girl game. In the end she pulled the exact same stunt that had worked for her many times in the past with her brothers. The women winning the WC have changed the dynamics of women’s rugby not just in NZ but worldwide. Their success in the Rugby 7’s adds more credence to their efforts and about time too. Wayne Smith was instrumental in their belief that they could come back from two thumping losses by England the year before so now they finally have the recognition they deserve. They put the biggest number of bums on seats at the final, highest attendance ever for a women's WC final. They worked hard and they deserved that win. I hope that support continues and NZRU look after them because they are more exciting to watch than our men. Cheers

I'm still trying to get my head around the level of stupidity required to reach that conclusion based on the evidence at hand . . . but suffice to say that what you think is "obvious" is often not so obvious to anyone else and often very stupid and misguided.
Anyway buttpl*g, why are you asking me this question? I'm one of a tiny minority of posters on here who accepts Blackboy as a new poster with no prior history. I haven't once suggested he might be a regular poster using a new nick. Not even once.
Why don't you ask your Master this question? He has some very strong views on the identity of Blackboy and what other names he allegedly uses. Why don't you ask him?

Yes in your case…..why would you have stayed under Apartheid with your views…fear of the unknown. When I left CT was fantastic, the Border Issues were in the future… life was a breeze.
I left because I wanted the challenge of competing in a bigger pond and because anybody with a bit of foresight could see it wasn’t going to end well for our children or grandchildren.
And it wasn’t easy with currency restrictions and being a foreigner was meaningful in the States in those days. A friend’s father told me I should change my accent if I wanted to compete.
I rejected that as well…I wanted to be myself. But we had several tough years, while my friends were on Clifton Beach or at Newlands. The easy thing wasn’t to leave, it was to stay at home and let the next generations fend for themselves.

Not everybody had the opportunity to leave and I respect that. But leaving isn’t easy…..England was a softer option, we first landed in NY, that was culture shock and not a great place to be on a meager budget.
