We have made it to the final round of the 2024 Supercross series. Jett Lawrence sits twenty points ahead of Cooper Webb heading into the final round giving him great odds of success. In the 250 class, it is an East /West showdown where both classes will compete. In the West, the points are tied between Levi Kitchen and RJ Hampshire making it a winner-take-all all event. In the East, Tom Vialle is sitting comfortably with a fifteen-point lead over Haiden Deegan giving Vialle a little more room for error. For all the latest updates read down below.
2024 SALT LAKE CITY SUPERCROSS // FULL COVERAGE
WHO’S SET UP WELL HEADED INTO SALT LAKE
Jett Lawrence has stayed consistent throughout most of the season and now sits twenty points ahead of Cooper Webb headed into the final round at Salt Lake. Webb who is also battling with a UCL injury in his thumb has kept Jett within enough points to bring the championship to the last round of the season, but now being down twenty points, Jett Lawrence does not need to win to become champion. In fact, Webb could win the final event and Lawrence has to stay within seventeenth position to win the championship.
Tom Vialle has also set himself up extremely well headed into the final round. Haiden Deegan trails by fifteen points and the way Vialle has been riding this season, it would take a miracle for Deegan to be able to capture the championship. In this sport, anything can happen however and it’s not impossible for Haiden Deegan. Deegan just needs to ride the best he can and make sure he comes away with a win. As for Vialle he just needs to hang on which is easier said than done especially in an East/West showdown.
MAY THE BEST MAN WIN
Levi Kitchen and RJ Hampshire are tied and headed into the final race for the West championship. Whoever finishes in the better position of the two will clinch it in Salt Lake. In the last East/West showdown Levi Kitchen did not have the best luck while RJ Hampshire went on to take the win. This weekend will take more focus, more mental strength, and more aggression than either rider has given all season long. It truly is an all-or-nothing scenario.
INJURED LIST:
ELI TOMAC – THUMB
Eli Tomac will be sitting out this weekend and possibly in the near future as the crash in Denver resulted in a fracture and torn ligaments in his thumb that will require surgery.
Eli Tomac States: “This is not the news I wanted to break to everyone, but at the Denver Supercross in free practice I crashed on my thumb, and it’s resulted in a Bennett fracture and some torn ligaments that will require surgery to stabilize my thumb. This is a tough one to swallow, knowing that I’m going to miss the opening rounds of motocross, but I’m optimistic I will be able to race the later portion of the outdoor season and the SMX rounds. I want to thank all my fans and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for being so supportive through the Supercross season. We will be back stronger in the later half of this season.”
KEN ROCZEN – LEG
Ken Roczen had a scary crash this past weekend in Nashville when his shock blew apart on the landing of the triple heading into the whoops he then was ejected from the motorcycle through the whoops resulting in a leg injury.
Ken Roczen states: “Alright, after further evaluation it looks like I will be out for a little bit. It turns out I broke my tib plateau, my foot, and my toe. No surgery is required as of right now but we are still gathering some information and further evaluation. That’s really all I have for now. Bye bye SX24 you were pretty cool! My fans and partners, you guys make it super fun and it’s a joy coming to the races and get that support you guys give us.”
BENNY BLOSS- ARM/CLAVICLE
During a practice session this week, Liqui Moly Factory Beta Supercross rider Benny Bloss sustained a fracture to his arm and collarbone, which will see him miss the remainder of the 2024 Supercross season.
Team Manager Carlen Gardner Stated:“I am super bummed for Benny. He has had a fantastic season representing the new 450 RX and we are in such a good spot with him and the bike. This sport likes to test your mental strength every day and all we can take from this situation is that we know the level Benny can get back to and better when he heals up. He will undergo needed surgery and begin the road to recovery. He will be supporting his teammate Colt over the next two rounds as we are still in full swing to better ourselves each weekend”
CAMERON MCADOO – SHOULDER
Cameron McAdoo came together with another rider in timed qualifying resulting in a shoulder injury, he then reaggravated this injury when he crashed in the main event and was unable to finish the race. Cameron will now be focusing on motocross.
Cameron McAdoo states: “Unfortunately yesterday during qualifying while on a roll lap another rider and I came together damaging my shoulder. I did everything in my power to race the main last night but it just wasn’t possible to finish safely. I will be further evaluated this week to find out the extent of it and will update everyone accordingly. It’s very easy to resort to “why me?” but I’ve learned that way of thinking never encourages progress to get where I want to be. Thank you to all of my partners and fans for the continued support.”
AARON PLESSINGER – ELBOW
Aaron Plessinger had a scary crash when getting cross-rutted on the landing of a triple in Foxborough. Aaron attempted to ride the qualifying sessions but ultimately pulled off due to the severity of pain in his elbow. He confirmed this week that he did end up breaking his elbow and will be out for the rest of the Supercross season.
GUILLEM FARRES – FEMUR
Guillem suffered a broken femur while training for the Daytona Supercross, he will be out for the foreseeable future.
Team Manager Nathan Ramsey states: “Guillem is one of the most liked riders in the industry that I have ever worked with. I am completely gutted that he had an unfortunate crash while testing at the Baker’s Factory. He is not only tough, but he is strong, and we will support him in every way to get him back at the races doing what he loves.”
AUSTIN FORKNER – BACK & SHOULDER
Austin had one of the scarier crashes we’ve seen in a while when he came up short entering a rhythm section which knocked his hand off the bars and sent him flying onto the infield concrete. As a result, he fractured his L3-L4 in his spine as well as a fractured scapula. Fortunately, his injuries did not require surgery, and he is expected to make a full recovery. We are unsure of his expected return, but it will not be for the rest of the Supercross season.
ENZO LOPES – FOREARM
Enzo Lopes underwent “Arm Pump” surgery on his forearms, which is claimed to help improve blood flow to the arms. This type of surgery usually takes a few weeks to recover from, but in Enzo’s case, it has been lingering over the last couple of months.
Enzo Lopes said, “Riding for Star Racing comes with a lot of expectations, especially after my momentum from last season. Unfortunately, the cards we were dealt with this off-season were out of our control, and with that, we agreed on missing some rounds so I could be back at 100% soon. I am super bummed, but I know in the long run this will be the best decision for me and also the team.”
JEREMY MARTIN – COMPLICATIONS FROM HIS CRASH EARLY IN SEASON
Jeremy Martin has decided not to ride the remainder of the 250 East Supercross season due to complications from his crash at round one in Detroit. Jeremy is focusing on his health and beginning preparation for the upcoming motocross season.
Jeremy Martin states: “I am incredibly disappointed to have to make this decision but when it comes to my health and my future, it is the right move. I struggled having to tell the team, but they were completely supportive knowing everything that I have gone through.”
CHRISTIAN CRAIG – ELBOW
Christian Craig posted on Instagram that he had been riding with elbow pain throughout the majority of the season. He said that this pain has been progressively increasing. He will be getting some tests done and there is no date announced for his return. Christian said, “I’ve been dealing with elbow pain that’s progressively getting worse since the season started. I’ve tried to push through it but unfortunately, it’s to the point where I can’t hang on after a few laps.”
EVAN FERRY – SHOULDER
Evan Ferry had a crash during press day for the Arlington Supercross causing an injury to his shoulder. Then, he decided to part ways with the Triumph racing team. He will be returning for outdoors.
